Understanding Trampoline Parts

There are two main types of land trampolines out there: small, and large. Small trampolines are also often referred to as rebounders or mini trampolines, and are often used for exercise purposes. Large trampolines are normally used outdoors and are fun for families that have children. Regardless of which type of trampoline you have, it helps to understand the basics of trampoline parts. Because many trampolines can be quite costly, some people choose to replace worn or broken parts instead of replacing the entire trampoline.

One crucial part of any trampoline is the mat. Usually black in color, this is the part that you bounce on. If you choose to replace the mat on your trampoline, you have several options. You can buy one pre-made, or you can have one custom made for your trampoline. Mats are made from durable, woven material that is designed to support a great deal of weight while remaining flexible and sturdy. You'll find that manufacturers offer different grades of mat material, from budget to professional grade.

Another important part of any trampoline are the pads. When replacing your trampoline pads, make sure to choose pads that cover the springs and frame completely. Pads should contain foam ranging from one-quarter of an inch to one inch thick for maximum protection. The foam works to absorb shock and protect jumpers if they happen to hit the edge of the trampoline. Pads come in various sizes and levels of thickness. Because they're important for safety and protection, get the thickest pads you can afford.

Springs are another vital component of your trampoline. The quality of your springs has a lot to do with how durable your trampoline is and how long it will last. Springs come in various lengths for all different types of trampolines. You should always inspect your springs on a regular basis and look for any that are stretched or appear worn or damaged. Many trampoline owners replace their springs at the same time that they replace their mat.

There are other trampoline parts you may also need. A safety net is an important accessory for any large trampoline, to keep bouncers safely enclosed. You might also require a ladder to reach your trampoline. There are also extras you can buy for added fun, like tents, pools and basketball sets designed especially for trampoline use.
